1953-D 1¢ WDDO-001  

Description:  Doubling shows to the south on IBER in LIBERTY.  

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die gouge (dot) shows between the upper N in IN and the G in GOD.  A series of faded diagonal die scratches run below the letter D in GOD.  A series of four diagonal die scratches show below the letters R and U in TRUST.  A die scratch runs northeast from the lower U in TRUST.  A die scratch runs south from Lincoln’s upper lip and two diagonal die scratches run northeast from the lower lip.  Reverse:  A series of vertical die scratches run through the left wheat tip and the E in E PLURIBUS.  A die gouge (dot) shows to the southeast of the second U in UNUM.  Light diagonal die scratches show to the left of the upper T in CENT.  Diagonal die scratches run between the upper U and N in UNITED and the lower C in CENT.

Description:  Doubling shows as an extra eyelid to the east of the normal eyelid.  

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A vertical die scratch runs between the 9 and 5 in the date.  A light diagonal die scratch runs northeast from Lincoln’s hair below the letters O and D in GOD.  Vertical die scratches show below the letter E in WE and southwest of the first T in TRUST.  A series of vertical die scratches show to the right of Lincoln’s mouth and forehead.  A die gouge (dot) shows above the left edge of the E in LIBERTY.  A die gouge (dot) shows below the R in LIBERTY.  A long diagonal die scratch runs through and below the T in LIBERTY.  Light concentric die scratches show in around and inside Lincoln’s ear.  A diagonal die scratch run southwest from the lower left edge of Lincoln’s ear.  Reverse:  A small die gouge (dot) shows in the upper right wheat lines.  A faded die clash line shows to the right of the lower C in CENT.  Die chips show on the upper and lower T in CENT.  A diagonal die scratch runs southeast from the lower N in UNITED.  A small die gouge shows on the lower right curve of the last S in STATES.

1953-D 1¢ WDDO-003  

Description:  Doubling shows to the right of the first T and inside the U in TRUST.  

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Stage A:  A long, mostly vertical die scratch runs through the right edge of the 5 in the date.  A diagonal die scratch runs southeast from the tail of the 9 in the date.  A diagonal die scratch runs toward the 1 in the date under Lincoln’s chin.  A wavering die scratch runs mostly east through Lincoln’s front hair curl.  A wavering die scratch runs north from between the upper R and T in LIBERTY.  A die gouge shows southeast of the B in the VDB initials.  Stage B:  Most Stage A die markers are weak or worn away.  Short remnants of the wavering die scratch on Lincoln’s front hair curl are still visible.  The wavering die scratch north from the upper T and T in LIBERTY in weak, but visible.  A diagonal die scratch runs NNE from the upper left arm of the Y in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  Stage A:  A series of concentric die scratches run through the letters E, P and L in E PLURIBUS.  A diagonal die scratch runs northwest from the upper I in PLURIBUS.  Areas of die damage show through the letters UNU in UNUM.  A die gouge (dot) shows on the right edge of the left wheat stalk, well left of the C in CENT.  Light diagonal die scratches run through the D in UNITED and first S in STATES.  Stage B:  Only the die gouge (dot) well left of the C in CENT is still visible from Stage A.  Die scratches show below E in E PLURIBUS.  A die gouge shows below UN in UNUM.  A series of diagonal die scratches show to the right of the E in ONE.  A die scratch runs from the left wheat ESE to above the C in CENT.  Diagonal die scratches run through the lower CE in CENT.  Diagonal die scratches run through the central letters of UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.  Diagonal die scratches run through and below the letter O in OF.  A die gouge shows to the right of the last A in AMERICA.

Description:  Doubling shows as a doubled eyelid shows well south of the normal eyelid.  

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Stage A:  The obverse shows an extremely minor RPM which is too minor for listing in the Wexler RPM files.  A small die gouge shows on the lower tip of the 5 in the date.  Light diagonal die scratches run southeast from below Lincoln’s chin.  Concentric die scratches show right of Lincoln’s nose and face.  Light diagonal concentric die scratches show above the RT in LIBERTY.  Light horizontal die scratches show near the rim northeast of the D in GOD.  A series of concentric die scratches run near the rim below the VDB initials.  Grouped die gouges can be found on the neck SSE of the lower ear.  Stage B:  The doubled eyelid is much weaker.  The die gouges on the neck are still strong.  Most die scratches are very weak to worn away.  A die gouge shows above the E in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  Stage A:  A series of mostly horizontal die scratches run through the letters in PLURIBUS.  Multidirectional die scratches run through the letters in UNUM.  A long horizontal die scratch runs from the E in E PLURIBUS through the upper O in ONE.  A series of multidirectional die scratches show around the upper T in CENT.  Concentric die scratches show above the letters UN in UNITED.  A series of concentric die scratches show to the northeast of TES in STATES.  Stage B:  The Stage A die scratches are very weak to worn away.  Light horizontal die scratches run below the C in CENT. A diagonal die scratch runs below the T in CENT is still present. A faded diagonal die scratch shows below OF. Faded diagonal die scratches run northeast from the upper C and A in AMERICA.

Description:  Doubling shows as a doubled eyelid to the south of the normal eyelid.  

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A vertical die scratch runs from Lincoln’s chin to his upper lip.  A diagonal die scratch shows to the right of Lincoln’s upper lip.  A short horizontal die scratch shows below WE.  A die crack runs northwest from the back of Lincoln’s eyebrow before curving west through the central forehead.  A shorter horizontal die crack shows to the northwest of the previously mentioned die crack.  Numerous concentric die scratches run through Lincoln’s ear.  A light diagonal die scratch shows above the Y in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  A diagonal die scratch runs inside the upper portion of the O in ONE.  A faded diagonal die scratch shows in the field to the right of the lower E in ONE.  A series of die chips show on the lower T in CENT.  A diagonal die scratch runs northeast from the upper left corner of the N in UNITED.  Light diagonal die scratches connect the letters U in UNITED with the O in OF.

Description:  An extra eyelid can be found below the normal eyelid.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die gouge can be found to the right of the bottom of the D in GOD.  A short die scratch runs WSW from the 1st T in TRUST.  Reverse:  A die scratch runs NNE from the center of the diagonal bar of the N in ONE.  A die scratch runs NNE from the bottom right of the E in ONE.

Description:  Doubling shows as an extra eyelid southeast of the normal eyelid.  

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die scratch runs ESE from the upper nose.  Reverse:  A horizontal die scratch runs below the S in PLURIBUS.

Die Markers:  Obverse:  A die scratch runs from Lincoln’s bowtie to the upper 5 in the date.  Diagonal die scratches run below the letters TRU in TRUST.  Parallel die scratches show to the right of Lincoln’s lower ear.  A series of diagonal die scratches show behind Lincoln’s lower bust.  A long diagonal die scratch runs SSW from the Y in LIBERTY.  Reverse:  Light concentric die scratches run through UNUM.  Concentric die scratches run through the lower O in ONE.  Horizontal die scratches run right of the E in ONE.  A horizontal die scratch runs through the central C in CENT.  A hash marked die scratch pattern shows behind the letter C in CENT.  Concentric die scratches run through the letters TES in STATES.  Horizontal die scratches run through AMERICA.

Description:  Doubling shows on both sides of the first T in TRUST.  Additional doubling shows on the last T in TRUST, the G in GOD, I in IN, and below the L in LIBERTY.  

Die Markers:  Obverse:  Die gouges or possible additional doubling shows to the right of both the letters I and N in LIBERTY.  Light concentric die scratches run toward the rim from the upper letters in GOD and the UST in TRUST.  A short die scratch runs east from the lower outer curve of the 9 in the date.  A strong die scratch runs south below the L in LIBERTY.  A short die scratch runs southeast from Lincoln’s eyelid.  Reverse:  A long, almost horizontal die scratch runs from the left wheat stalk to below the C in CENT.  A die gouge (dot) shows to the right of the left wheat stalk touching the previously mentioned die scratch.  Vertical die scratches show to the right of the E in CENT.  A vertical die scratch overlays diagonal die scratches to the right of the T in CENT.  A series of diagonal die scratches run through the letters TES in STATES.  Two parallel die scratches show to the left of the last A in AMERICA.
